- Students know objects have observable properties. They will classify/sort objects by properties such as: weight, size, and shape.
- Students observe/describe objects move in different ways using everyday objects. They demonstrate a force (push or pull) must be applied to change an object's motion and observe motion can be altered.
- Students work in groups, use senses for observations, conduct investigations and keep pictorial/written records. They describe discoveries, ask questions, draw conclusions based on investigations. They also ask questions/design inquiries to answer questions in the appropriate situations.
- Students identify beneficial and harmful properties of the Sun and compare observations of size, shape, color. Students discuss there are more stars in the sky that can be counted, and they are not scattered evenly. They ask questions and explore Law of Gravity by demonstrating Earth's gravity pulls objects on/near Earth towards it even though nothing touches object.
- Students understand rocks, soil, water, and living things are only on Earth's surface and not in Earth's layers. Students explain all organisms need water to live and some organisms live in water. They know water safety procedures. They know Earth constantly changes; and changes happen slow and fast.
- Students observe living things and environments. Identify major plant parts using five senses as observation tools. Describe living/non-living things and compare observations, explain characteristic differences between living/non-living things. Students understand basic necessities for plants, animals and humans such as air, water, food, and space.
- Students will recognize offspring related to their parents. They will identify similarities between offspring and parents, and describe differences in populations of plants, animals, and people.
